RS-232 terminal
The VoIP Gateway status and error messages can be viewed on a terminal connected to the RS-232
port on the VoIP Gateway.
Connecting a terminal to the VoIP Gateway
With a standard RS-232 straight cable (not a cross-over cable) with DB-9 connectors, connect the
VoIP Gateway RS-232 port to the communications port on your computer or terminal. The
connector pinout and gender are shown in
Figure 39
.

Configuring a terminal
To communicate with the VoIP Gateway, you must set your terminal or terminal program to the
following communications port settings:

Baud Rate:
115,200 bps
•
Data bits:
8
•
Parity:
None
•
Stop bits:
1
•
Flow control:
Hardware
Viewing the terminal information
After applying power to or resetting the VoIP Gateway, the information shown in
Figure 40
is
printed on the terminal screen. This information can be used to determine possible VoIP Gateway
initialization problems, such as incorrectly defined Local IP address, Subnet mask, Default router
IP address, TFTP server IP address, BootFile name, INI file name and Full/Half duplex network
state.
