Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 module fundamentals

the 333 MHz processor located on the 8692 SF/CPU CPU motherboard.
The Enterprise enhanced CPU daughter card is only supported on the
8692 SF/CPU module.

With Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 Release 4.1 and later, the daughter
card provides decreased convergence times for large forwarding tables.
Many advanced features require this card.

In a system with two Ethernet Routing Switch 8692 SF/CPU modules, you
must install SuperMezz on both of the 8692 SF/CPU modules.

8661 SSL Acceleration Module

The 8661 SSL Accelerator Module (SAM) intelligently accelerates secure
business transactions and confidential data by off-loading Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL) processing from local servers without imposing delays on
other traffic in the same data path. The following figure shows the SAM.

You cannot install the 8661 SSL Acceleration Module in an 8003 chassis.

The 8661 SAM consists of two parts.

•

An SSL Input/Output Module (I/O).

•

A Backplane Fabric Module (BFM) that connects the switching module
to the Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 backplane.

The SAM is a 128K records module that allows support for large layer 2
and layer 3 configurations. These modules only operate with Releases
3.3.1, 3.5, and later.

The following figure shows the 8661 SAM faceplate.
