Operation
WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the
following tasks. Observe and follow the safety instructions in
this document and all other related documentation.
This section contains general instructions for operating the RA-16 rotary
atomizer. The air and fluid pressures given are initial settings. You can
adjust these settings to obtain optimum performance.
When operating the RA-16 rotary atomizer, make sure the supply air is
clean and dry (with 99.99% of 0.1 micron contaminants removed).
For daily start-up, perform the following actions:
1. See Figure 4-1. Turn on the main air shut-off valve (1).
2. Check the bearing air pressure. It should be at least 4.83 bar
(70 psi); otherwise, the system will shut down. Higher bearing air
pressures of 5.50 − 6.90 bar (80 − 100 psi) are recommended.
3. See Figure 4-2. Install the cup assembly (1, 2, 3) on the turbine
shaft, as follows:
a. See Figure 4-3. Insert a

-in. hex key into the hole on the
charge ring (2).
b. While rotating the cup (3) clockwise (by hand), push firmly on the
hex key until it aligns and drops into the hole on the turbine shaft
(this locks the turbine shaft (1)).
c. Grasp the cup (3) and turn it clockwise (as viewed from the front
of the RA-16 rotary atomizer) until it is finger-tight.
NOTE: The distributor is reverse-thread (left-handed).
