Muffler and Air Valve Removal 

See Figure C 1-5.  These steps apply to both old- and new-style air motors.

1. Remove the four short socket-head screws (19) and lock washers (27)

from the mufflers (28) with a

16

-in. hex wrench.

2. Swing the mufflers away from the air cylinders and unhook them from

the air valve (25).

3. Remove the four large O-rings (26) from the air valve.
4. Remove the four

4

20 x 1.375 in. socket-head screws (A) from the air

valve with a 

3

/

16

-in. hex wrench, then remove the air valve from the

cylinder heads.  Refer to 

Air Valve Rebuild

 in this section.

5. Remove the four small O-rings (12) and two large O-rings (13) from the

grooves in the machined faces of each cylinder head.
