Air Pilot Valve Cartridge Replacement (Pump Revisions A
−
C)
NOTE:
The air pilot valves on pump revisions A through C consisted of an
actuator cartridge and a valve cartridge. One valve set is installed in each
cylinder head. Use this procedure to replace the cartridges. For air motors
without cartridges, refer to the procedure on the following page.
1. Remove the screws (4) and flat washers (5) securing the actuator and
valve cartridges (6 and 10) in the cylinder heads.
2. Remove the valve cartridges, then the actuator cartridges. Use pliers if
necessary. Do not damage the housings.
3. Lubricate the external O-rings of the new cartridges with PTFE grease.
4. Install the actuator cartridges into the cylinder heads with the holes in
the flats facing toward the valve cartridge bores.
5. Push the valve cartridges into the air cylinder heads.
NOTE:
You may need to lightly tap on the cartridges with a soft mallet to
engage the O-rings. When installed correctly the flat ends of the valve
cartridges are flush against the actuator cartridges flats and the valve
balls (10A) poke through the holes in the flats to contact the actuator
plungers (6A).
6. Re-install the screws and flat washers to secure the cartridges.
7. Make sure the plastic caps (7) are installed on the actuator cartridge
heads to prevent debris from entering the cartridge.
