MACHINE OPERATION
Figure 6-2:
7. Move the joystick to the proper side selected for tie
manipulation.
NOTE
During tie removal or insertion, pressing the top of the
Rocker Switch boosts the hydraulics and provides
extra force for the removal or insertion of the tie.
8. Momentarily press the bottom of switch #1 (
TIE
GRIP OPEN
) on the joystick to release the tie. See
9.
Tie Insertion:
Follow steps 5 through 7 to grip and
insert a new tie.
10. Use the smaller joystick on the LH controller to tilt
the tie (if required) during insertion.
NOTE
After the tie is inserted, press the forward travel pedal
to lower the rails and release the rail clamp.
RAILWAY TOWING
Maximum towing speed is 20 mph (32 km/h). Reduce
the speed accordingly, as dictated by weather or track
conditions. Remember that the machine weight may
approach the weight of the towing vehicle. Maintain
increased stopping distance accordingly.
BEFORE TOWING
The following steps must be taken BEFORE towing the
machine:
1. Install the Lock-Ups. See “LOCKUPS” on
2. Drain the air tanks.
3. Chock all wheels.
4. Remove the T-bolt from the back side of the air
canister and insert it into the bottom of the brake
canister.
5. Tighten the T-bolt until the brakes release. The
spring inside of the canister compresses and
raises the brake head above the wheel.
6. Position the propulsion bypass valve in the
TOWING
position.
7. Remove the drive chain(s) if the machine is to be
towed a long distance.
8. Inspect the towing vehicle coupler for loose or
damaged components.
TOWING STEPS
CAUTION
PINCH HAZARD! Hands and fingers can be
pinched and severely crushed at the
coupling devices. Keep hands and fingers
clear of the coupling device and all other
pinch points.
To tow this machine:
1. Back the towing vehicle to the machine and
engage the couplers.
IMPORTANT
Ensure that the coupling device is fully engaged,
closed, and locked.
Ensure that the coupling device and rear frame
members of the towing vehicle do not interfere with or
restrict motion of any part of the machine
maneuverability.
2. Remove the chocks for towing.
3. When towing is complete, loosen the T-bolt on the
bottom of the brake canister until the brakes come
into contact with the wheel.
4. Remove the T-bolt and return it to its stored
position at the back of the brake canister.
5. Return the propulsion bypass valve to the work or
travel position.
