Flash Modes
The flash modes listed on the previous page may combine one or more
of the following settings, as shown by the flash mode icon:

R
(auto flash)
: Flash fires as required when lighting is poor or subject
is back lit.
•
j
(red-eye reduction)
: Use for portraits. Flash fires at low intensity
before main flash, reducing “red-eye” but increasing lag between
shutter-release button being pressed all the way down and shutter
being released.
•
j
(off)
: Flash does not fire even when lighting is poor or subject is
back-lit.
•
S
(slow sync)
: Shutter speed slows automatically to capture
background lighting at night or under low light. Use to include
background lighting in portraits.
•
T
(rear-curtain sync)
: The flash fires just before the shutter closes,
creating streams of light behind moving light sources as shown below
at left.
