Attempts to compare dB FS calibration to a traditional analog dB scale are not entirely
straightforward. The American SMPTE standard defines -20 dB FS as the
Alignment Level (a
common reference level considered a ‘safe’ benchmark) equivalent to a nominal level of +4dBU.
Note: TriCaster’s analog audio conforms to SMPTE RP-155. The maximum input/output level is
+24 dBu, nominal input level is +4 dBu (-20dB FS), and the sample rate is 48 kHz. Clipping can
occur when recording exceeds -14dB FS
As the suggested Alignment Level (a +4dBu reference level corresponding to 1.23v RMS) is -20dB
Full Scale, you may take very limited advantage of the headroom above that to accommodate
infrequent peaks – but do so very judiciously.
16.2 INTERNAL SOURCES
Besides external audio sources, sounds played from TriCaster’s internal storage volumes
(including removable media such as external hard drives or ‘thumb’ drives) via the content
players (DDR, etc.) can be added to the output mix.
Separate sub-panels are provided to control audio added to TriCaster’s Program output mix by
the
DDR and Still media players.
16.2.1 DDR AND STILLS
Both video and audio files in the media player playlists may contain numerous audio channels.
At most, the
DDR and Stills modules will output the first 4 of those available (additional
embedded streams are ignored).
The options and controls in these sub-panels are similar to those in the input control panels, with
the obvious exception that a
Connection Type menu is unnecessary.
16.3 OUTPUT CONTROLS
Each of the audio sources discussed above provides its own contribution to TriCaster’s audio
