Chapter 5 VoIP Setup
5.1 SIP
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard
protocol for initiating an interactive user session that involves multimedia elements such as
video, voice, chat, gaming, and virtual reality.
The SIP is a request-response protocol, dealing with requests from clients and responses
from servers. It can establish multimedia sessions or Internet telephony calls, and modify or
terminate them. Because the SIP supports name mapping and redirection services, it makes
it possible for users to initiate and receive communications and services from any location,
and for networks to identify the users wherever they are.
5.1.1 Configuration
You can configure SIP parameters in Configuration window. The figure below shows you an
example of a SIP account configuration.
There are two VoIP accounts in this page - Account 1 and Account 2, which represent
Phone1 and Phone2 respectively. By default the Phone 2 (Account 2) is disabled. So if you
only have one SIP account, you can simply configure the account in Phone 1 (Account 1)
and leave the Account 2 disabled as its default. If you have two accounts, you need to enable
Account 2 before you configure it.
