The ENCOMPASS XD

 is a digital audio playback device that plays audio content directly from a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.  

The system is designed to be virtually “plug and play”.  Note that only discs formatted for the ENCOMPASS XD will play.  

Consumer audio CDs, CDi and other non-Encompass formatted media will not play in the ENCOMPASS XD.

The ENCOMPASS XD includes a back-lit front-panel LCD and five front-panel buttons: POWER,

ENCOMPASS XD Connections & Settings – Reference diagram on reverse 

1 Power 

 

Using the enclosed power module (only), connect the appropriate end to the ENCOMPASS XD rear panel 

port labeled 12 VDC IN.  Connect the other end into an appropriate 105-130 VAC, 60 Hz, three-prong 

power outlet. 

 

2 Audio 

Output 

 

Using a standard RCA-type audio cable, connect one end to the appropriate ENCOMPASS XD rear panel 

RCA-type connector.  Connect the other end to an audio amplifier.   The Encompass XD supports two 

audio zones.  The primary zone utilizes the A outputs (numbered 1 and 3).  The secondary zone utilizes 

the B outputs (number 2 and

 

4). 

 

Time & Date 

 

Press the ENTER button on the faceplate to access the control/diagnostic menu.  Press the 

 button once, 

then press ENTER to access the Date menu.  Press the 

 or 

 

button to modify the month.  When correct, 

press ENTER to move to the next field.  The BACK button may be pressed to return to the previous field.  

Next, use the 

 & 

 arrows to modify the time zone.  Press ENTER to store the time zone.  Finally, use the 

 & 

 arrows to confirm the Daylight Saving Time settings.  In most cases, this will be YES.  If you are in 

an area which does not participate in Daylight Saving Time, select NO.  

 

What to Expect 

 

Upon pressing the POWER button, the LCD on the faceplate of the ENCOMPASS XD will illuminate green 
and display the Muzak logo with the message Now initializing drive, then the message Now looking for 
media. The latter will transition to Please Insert Media.  Press the eject button to open the disc tray.  Place the 
disc on the tray, with the label facing upward.  Press the eject button to close the disc tray.  After 
approximately eight seconds, the unit will begin playing audio.  At that time LCD will display the artist name 
and song title.
