APPENDIX E — RS-232 CONSOLE PORT
The RS-232 Console Port is a command-line interface available using any terminal
emulation program. The primary purpose of the interface is to configure the Internet
Protocol (IP) address of the Ethernet 1 network interface. Properly setting the IP
address is a prerequisite to using the OM-EM. After the IP address has been
properly assigned, the OM-EM should be used for all subsequent configuration
changes. The user can also view the ENET1 MAC Address.
The RS-232 Test/Console Port is accessed by removing the clip-on bezel on the front
panel. It is a standard nine pin connector that accepts a nine pin straight through
cable.
Do not use a null-modem cable that swaps transmit and receive.
Establishing Communication with a PC
To initiate a port session with the OM:
1.
On the PC connected to the OM, open a terminal emulation program (for
example, HyperTerminal).
2.
Display the Communications Port window and select the following values:
•
Bits per second: 9600
•
Data bits: 8
•
Parity: None
•
Stop bits: 1
•
Flow control: None
3.
Click
OK
to close the window.
4.
Press
ENTER
and the User Console prompt should be displayed.
General Operations
Getting the Unit’s ENET1 MAC Address
Type
getEnet1MacAddr
and the console will display the ENET1 MAC address.
Setting the Unit’s ENET1 IP Address
Type
setEnet1IPAddr(“168.84.247.89”,”255.255.255.0”),
where 168.84.247.89 is an
example IP Address, and 255.255.255.0 is an example subnet mask.
Type
getEnet1IPAddr
to display the ENET1 IP address. The unit must be power-
cycled for the IP address to take effect.
