Cooling the Enclosure
It is essential to properly cool all of the equipment used in a rack mounted
system. The components of the system require an input air temperature
below 40º C (104º F). Four internal DC powered fans cool the system’s
drives and CompactPCI modules in front. An empty chassis has three fans
(two in the lower card area and one behind the drive bay.) With a CPU
module installed there are four fans. Natural convection cools the
transition modules mounted in the back of the chassis. The rear-mounted
modules are typically transition boards with few active components. To
ensure adequate cooling:
❏
make sure to leave at least three inches at the front and back of the
system
❏
make sure all panels are in place
❏
fill or cover all module slots
Grounding the CPX2000 Series Chassis
Mount the chassis with metal screws or bolts that give a good electrical
connection between the screws or bolts and the mounting surface.
Note
Failure to observe proper grounding practices may cause a
variety of noise, electrostatic discharge and RFI (Radio
Frequency Interference) problems.
