ASi System

02/98 AWB 27-1314-GB
Technical features of
the ASi system
Table 1: Technical features of the ASi System
ASi network structure
So-called coupling modules (Figure 18 on page 71)
allow the network cabling topology to be tailored to
the requirements of the specific installation. An
example network structure is shown in Figure 13 on
page 37. Coupling modules can be configured as
cable intersections or T connectors, or they can be
fitted at the end of the ASi cable. Each ASi network
line supports one ASi master and up to 31 ASi slaves.
Each coupling module can be fitted with either a plain
cover (

in Figure 13 on page 37) or with a so-called
Network topology
Both linear and star-shaped (as required
by the specific installation)
Data cable
Unscreened 2-core cable which carries both
data and power
Cable length
100 m (max. 300 m with two repeaters)
Max. number of slaves
Max. 31 slaves per ASi line
Max. number of
actuators/sensors
124 actuators and 124 sensors. Each
slave can have a maximum of 4 inputs and
4 outputs
Addressing
Fixed slave address assigned by the
master or with address programming
device
Number of I/O data bits
Max. 4 bits in both send and receive
directions in each data telegram
Cycle time
Max. 5 ms for 31 slaves
Fault tolerance
Automatic identification and retry of faulty
telegrams
Access method
Master/slave with cyclic polling
Management functions
provided by the master
– Initialisation of the ASi network
– Identification of the slaves
– Asynchronous assignment of
parameters to the slaves
– Diagnosis of the data transfer and the
slaves
– Error codes returned to the controller
– Addressing of the slaves
