GPSMic. Installation Guide
GPSMic. Installation Guide
NOTE: The GPSMIC series of products require setup and programming prior to use. GPSMICs are shipped
from the factory with basic programming already performed; however this default program- ming
may not be appropriate for your radio system and some features may not be enabled. To get the most
out of your GPSMIC products, a system administrator or radio technician should program the unit(s) using
a computer and the GPSMIC Tools software suite before they are deployed into the field.
This installation guide assumes that such programming has already been performed. If it has not, please
contact your system administrator or the dealer that you purchased the products from for further assistance.
INSTALL BATTERY: The GPSMIC uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack to power the
unit’s internal Global Positioning receiver and data modem. The battery pack must be installed in the
unit prior to operation.
1. Rotate the belt clip on the back of the GPSMIC 90° to expose the thumbscrew at the top of the battery
compartment cover. Rotate the thumbscrew counter-clockwise until the cover opens. Remove the cover.
2. Insert the included rechargeable battery pack into the battery compartment. Ensure that the battery
terminals are properly lined up with the contacts inside of the battery compartment.
3. Re-install the battery compartment cover and rotate the thumbscrew clockwise to tighten.
Do NOT over tighten.
CHARGE THE BATTERY PACK: Once the battery pack is installed, it must be charged before use.
The GPSMIC is supplied with a wall charger a n d a U S B c a b l e for this purpose.
1. Locate the charging / programming port on the GPSMIC cable. This is located at the back cover of
GPSMic. Insert the quick-release connector of the charger into this port.
2. Once the charger is connected to the GPSMIC, plug the wall charger into a 120 volt AC outlet.
3. Once the charging process has begun, the LED indicator on the side of the GPSMIC will flash green
once every 10 seconds. Once charging is complete, the LED will indicate solid green. Typical charge time
is approximately 5-6 hours.
4. Disconnect the charger when charging is completed.
5. Typical operating time between charges is generally greater than 10 hours. However, operating time
can vary depending on usage and the condition of the battery pack. Recharge the battery regularly.
Note: The GPSMIC can continue to operate as a standard speaker microphone without power. However,
the GPS and data modem require power. GPS and data functions are not available unless the battery is
installed and charged.
