Clutch pedal operation
E00611300039
Observe the following cautions when using the
clutch pedal. Not observing them could result in
rapid clutch wear or in clutch damage.
l
Press the clutch pedal all the way down
while shifting gears.
l
Press and hold the clutch pedal all the way
down before starting the engine.
l
Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal.
l
On hills and other gradients, do not hold the
vehicle in position by slipping the clutch
without using the brakes.
l
Make sure the space under the clutch pedal is
free of objects that could obstruct the pedal.
CAUTION
l
If the clutch is engaged suddenly while
the engine revolution is high, an extreme-
ly large load will be applied instantane-
ously to the power train, possibly leading
to the breakage of that component. Please
ensure, therefore, that the clutch pedal is
always applied in a slow yet firm manner.
Your vehicle has a special feature to pro-
tect the power train from damage; the
engine is controlled in such a way that ex-
cessive increase in engine revolution is
prevented in situations where the acceler-
ator pedal is depressed while the vehicle
is stationary and the clutch pedal has
been depressed.
NOTE
l
If either of the following occurs, we recom-
mend you to have the clutch inspected.
• The pedal stroke until clutch disengage-
ment suddenly increases.
• The engine revs when the clutch is not
disengaged.

The shift pattern is shown on the gearshift lever
knob. Be sure to always fully depress the clutch
pedal before attempting to shift the lever.
CAUTION
l
Do not move the gearshift lever into re-
verse while the vehicle is moving for-
ward; doing so will damage the transmis-
sion.
l
Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal
while driving as this will cause premature
clutch wear or damage.
NOTE
l
During cold weather, shifting may be diffi-
cult until the transmission lubricant has
warmed up. This is normal and not harmful
to the transmission.
