S-AWC drive

mode

Function

SNOW

This mode is chiefly suit-
able for the snow road.
Stability improves on a
slippery road.

GRAVEL

This mode is suitable
mainly for driving on un-
paved or rough roads.
This mode provides 4WD
high driving performance
and stable cornering per-
formance.

4-wheel drive operation requires special driv-
ing skills.
Carefully read the “4-wheel drive operation”
on page 6-53 and take care to drive safety.

NOTE

l

The  S-AWC  drive  mode  becomes  “AUTO”
when you turn on the ignition switch or the
operation mode.
For  some  models,  the  state  of  the  S-AWC
drive  mode  is  maintained  even  if  you  turn
off  the  ignition  switch  or  the  operation
mode.

S-AWC drive mode-selector

The drive mode can be switched by press the
switch  while  the  ignition  switch  is  in  the
“ON” position or the operation mode in ON.

If  you  press  the  switch,  you  can  change  the
drive  mode  in  the  order  of  AUTO,  SNOW,
GRAVEL, AUTO.

CAUTION

l

Do not operate the drive mode-selector with
the front wheels spinning on a snowy road or
in  similar  conditions.  The  vehicle  could
lunge in an unexpected direction.

l

Driving  on  dry,  paved  roads  in  “GRAVEL”
and  “SNOW”  mode  causes  increased  fuel
consumption, noise and vibration.

NOTE

l

Even  if  an  S-AWC  drive  mode  other  than
“AUTO” was selected before turning the ig-
nition switch to the “LOCK” position or put-
ting the operation mode in OFF, the S-AWC
drive mode will be set to “AUTO” when the
ignition  switch  is  turned  to  the  “ON”  posi-
tion  or  the  operation  mode  is  put  in  ON
again.
However,  for  some  models,  the  state  of  the
S-AWC  drive  mode  is  maintained  even  if
you turn off the ignition switch or the opera-
tion mode.

l

The drive mode can be switched while driv-
ing or stopped.

S-AWC drive mode display

Example: “AUTO” mode is selected.
 
The  currently  selected  drive  mode  is  dis-
played on the multi-information display.
In addition, when the drive mode is changed,
the  selected  mode  appears  on  the  interrupt
display  screen  of  the  information  screen  in
the multi-information display.
