Installing External Paging Equipment
Optional external paging equipment can be connected to the Page port on the back of the Controller.
for an example of this port location. Use a paging amplifier that
does not
provide talk
battery.
Using background music and paging on an IP phone, such as the IP PhonePlus, consumes as much
bandwidth as a call to the device. If the site has limited bandwidth, ensure that IP phone users do
not enable background music and that they limit using the paging functionality.
To install external paging equipment:
1.
Cut a length of shielded speaker cable to run from the paging amplifier to the back of the chassis.
For an HX Controller chassis, attach a 3.5 mm, two-conductor (mono), mini phone jack. For a
CS Controller chassis, attach an RCA-type phono plug to one end of the cable.
2.
Connect the other end of the cable to the amplifier high-impedance input according to the
manufacturer instructions.
3.
Connect the paging speaker(s) to the amplifier using speaker cable.
4.
Plug in the amplifier AC power cord.
do not
use the outlet for the Mitel 5000. Also, Mitel recom
-
mends using an UPS.
5.
Set the amplifier volume control to the lowest setting and turn on the amplifier.
6.
Do one of the following:
•
If installing the paging equipment on a phone speaker or the chassis paging port
:
a.
From a phone location, make a page by lifting the handset, pressing the
PAGE
button (or
dialing 7—the default Page feature code), and dialing a zone code that includes the external
paging zone or dialing the extension number of the external paging port. The default is
91000.
b.
Adjust the amplifier to the desired level while placing the page.
•
If installing the paging equipment on a LS circuit:
a.
Ensure that the LS circuit is not toll restricted.
NOTICE
