and any other system equipment, allow a sufficient margin for error (for example, air conditioning
failure, routine maintenance, plant shutdown, etc.) As a general rule, if conditions are suitable
for office personnel, they are also suitable for all equipment. A properly controlled environment
will help to extend the equipment operating life.
Gathering the Necessary Tools and Supplies
Keep the following information in mind when gathering the necessary tools and supplies to install a
system:
• A high-impedance digital multimeter to ensure correct wiring of the modular jack assemblies
[line jack unit]. Multimeter accuracy must be ±0.5% or better.
• With a U.S. system, standard terminal blocks (66-type) and bridging clips for constructing the
MDF. With a European system, Krone blocks for the MDF jumper field.
• With a U.S. system, industry-standard, 2-pair non-stranded cable terminated with modular plugs
for connecting the MDF terminal blocks to single line jacks on the back of the CS controller.
• Industry-standard cross-connect, or jumper, wire may be needed for certain applications.
• Gas discharge tubes with silicon avalanche suppressors for lightning protection on the CO [Local
Exchange], DID (USA only), and OPX trunks.
• Grounding terminal and 10AWG [diameter 6mm] wire for grounding the chassis.
• Standard hand tools and the mounting hardware for the MDF backboard, trunk and termination
blocks, modular jack assemblies [line jack unit], etc.
• For online or offline system programming, a computer with the appropriate specifications (see
.
• Industry-standard, one-pair (two-conductor) twisted cable to run from the MDF to all station
instruments and four-conductor modular jack [line jack unit] assemblies for all digital and analog
station instruments, including digital telephones, single line DTMF phones, SLAs, and playback
devices.
• Grounding terminal and 10AWG (diameter 6mm) wire for grounding the chassis, Single-Line
Adapters, etc.
If installing any T1 or E1 and/or Primary Rate Interface (PRI) trunks
: Depending on the type of
T1/PRI or E1/PRI termination used by the service provider [network provider] and how close it is to
the MDF, the following tools and supplies are also needed. The T1 or PRI trunk is usually connected
to the standard RJ-48C modular jack provided on the T1M or T1M-2 module. See
information.
