The 8528 and 8568 require v3.2 or later software and are not backwards compatible. As with the
8520 and 8560, the 8528 and 8568 do not require a license. And, like the 8520 and 8560, the 8528
and 8568 do not generate their own DTMF tones; instead they use available system DTMF
transmitters.
Installation Instructions
An installation guide is packed with each Mitel 8528 and 8568 digital telephone. Refer to the
instructions in the guide and to the information in this section. All Mitel installation guides are also
available in PDF format on the
Using a Headset
The 8528/8568 is designed to work with a headset that has a 4-pin, RJ-type connector. User
satisfaction for any particular headset can be quite subjective, so Mitel recommends that users try
before buying so they are more likely to be satisfied with the fit, quality, and cost of the solution. This
recommendation includes all wired and wireless headsets. In addition, Mitel recommends using a
headset with:
• a built-in microphone to avoid audio feedback or echo.
• FCC/IC hearing aid compatible (HAC).
• Certification Impact Analysis (CSA): UL 60950-1.
Wireless Considerations
: A wireless headset must remain within the system’s range operating
limit from the base. Refer to the appropriate manufacturer’s user guide for more details.
Cable Termination for the 8528/8568
shows the cable termination for the 8528/8568. Unlike the 8520/8560, the 8528 and 8568
use standard RJ11 wiring configuration as defined in Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)
968. The 8528 and 8568 are polarity insensitive. See the Installation Guide that accompanies each
telephone for additional installation information.
Downloading Firmware
Unlike the 8520/8560 telephones, the newer 8528/8568 telephones use programmable firmware to
update the phones. When a phone is powered up, the system checks the firmware file against the
phone version. If the phone requires a firmware update due to a new firmware release being available
or a system upgrade, the system downloads the updated firmware to the phone automatically.
There are two firmware images provided in the “cs-ep-mitl-85x8” firmware package. The image
upgrades occur separately, and the phone is not usable during the process.
