Tips on saving energy

Cooking
Remove any accessories from the
oven that you do not require for
cooking.
Pre-heat the oven only if instructed to
do so in the recipe or the cooking
chart.
Avoid opening the door during
cooking.
In general, if a range of temperatures
is given, it is best to select the lower
temperature and to check the food
after the shortest given time.
It is best to use dark baking tins and
containers with a matt finish made
from non-reflective materials
(enamelled steel, oven-proof
glassware, non-stick coated cast
aluminium). Shiny materials such as
stainless steel or aluminium reflect
heat, preventing it reaching the food
efficiently. Do not cover the oven floor
or the rack with heat-reflective
aluminium foil.
Observe cooking durations to avoid
energy wastage when cooking food.
Wherever possible set the cooking
duration, or use a food probe.
Fan plus
can be used for cooking
many types of food. Because the fan
distributes the heat to food straight
away it allows you to use a lower
temperature than you would with
Conventional heat
. It also
enables you to cook on several shelf
levels at the same time.
Gentle bake
is an innovative
function that makes optimum use of
residual heat. You can save up to
30 % energy compared to cooking
with a standard oven function as long
as the door is kept shut during
cooking.
Fan grill
can be used for a wide
variety of food and you can use lower
temperatures than with other grill
functions which use the maximum
temperature setting.
Whenever possible you should cook
several dishes at the same time.
Place them next to each other in the
oven or on different shelf levels.
Dishes which you are unable to
prepare at the same time should, if
possible, be cooked one after the
other in order to make use of existing
heat in the oven.
