Cable/DSL
This field indicates the Internet connection status. Its value is Connected ,
Disconnected or Connecting.
WAN IP
Connected to the Internet through Cable or ADSL modem, the ISP will offer the
home gateway a WAN IP address to communicate with other hosts in the Internet.
Subnet Mask
This field indicates a mask used to determine what subnet the WAN IP address
belongs to. An IP address has two components, the network address and the host
address. For example, consider the IP address 192.168.168.182 with subnet
mask is 255.255.255.0, the first three numbers (192.168.168) represent the Class
C network address, and the forth number (182) identifies a particular host on this
network.
Gateway
“Gateway” is a node on a network that serves as an entrance to another network.
For the home gateway, The “Gateway” is the next device, which routes the traffic to
the Internet.
DNS
Domain Name System (or Service or Server) is an Internet service that translates
domain names into IP addresses. Because the domain names are alphabetic,
they are easier to remember. However, the Internet is based on IP addresses.
Every time you use a domain name, a DNS service must translate the name into
the corresponding IP address. For example, the domain name www.example.com
might translate to 198.105.232.4. The DNS system has its own network. If one
DNS server doesn't know how to translate a particular domain name, it will ask its
upper stream server, and so on, until the correct IP address is returned or
timed-out.
