METRODATA NetTESTER FAMILY USER MANUAL
76-02-107 Rev.A
Page 55 of 133
If the item is a sub-menu (indicated by
<menu>
in the right-hand column), then the
new menu will be displayed. The entire user interface is arranged as a tree structure,
which is navigated by entering sub-menus in this way, and by returning to a parent
menu by pressing the <ESCAPE> key.
Selecting an item which shows
<display>
in the right-hand column will navigate to
an information screen. These each have a unique format, dictated by the information
they contain. Most have a number of keys that can be typed whilst the screen is
displayed to perform functions such as refresh data, clear counters, etc. A single line
of help information at the very bottom of the screen usually describes these.
A hybrid type of information and menu screen is used throughout the user interface.
This is indicated as a
<menu>
but in appearance is more like an information screen.
Unlike an information screen, however, it can offer access to further sub-menus and
screens.
An item with nothing in the right-hand column is a 'command'. Selecting such an item
generally performs some kind of immediate action.
Remaining items are those with a value displayed in the right-hand column.
Selecting this type of item will allow the value to be modified (providing this is
permitted). Depending on the item, one of two methods is used to enter a new value.
Those with a small number of possible values allow the user to scroll through these
using the <SPACE> bar. When the desired value is displayed, the selection is
confirmed by pressing <ENTER>. Pressing <ESCAPE> returns to the menu without
making any change.
Items with more complex structure allow the user to type a new value (occasionally
more than one value) at a prompt, usually offering help and error messages as
appropriate. Again, <ENTER> confirms the desired change and <ESCAPE> cancels
the operation.
To return to the top-level menu from anywhere in the menu system, type Ctrl-T.
To log out of the unit from the top-level menu, press <ESCAPE>. You will be asked
to confirm the action.
To log out from anywhere in the menu system, without any confirmation request,
type Ctrl-D.
For clarity, the example menus and screens that appear in the remainder of this
document are shown without the status line at the top, and regular menus are shown
without the help area at the bottom.
All examples are shown in TTY mode.
13.2 HTTP Interface
The HTTP/web user interface is based on the same menus and screens, arranged in
the same tree structure as the terminal/TELNET/SSH interface.
