6. 4 Report & Summary formats
The Report and Summary formats are described in this section for the Physical layer,
although the comments may generally be applied to other layers.
Reports and Summaries are quite different in the way that they are set up and operated, and
therefore they are described separately.
Reports are fixed format, and offer no choices except the interface being reported. They are
used for routine daily monitoring of the DSU and the Network.
Summaries are more flexible, and both the interface and type of error being monitored are
user-selected, together with the frequency of data update. They are designed to be useful in
investigating fault conditions. It is easy to switch from one interface to another when
investigating problems.
Note:
The interface being interrogated is given at the top left of the screen directly under the screen
header. For every screen presentation It is important to check always that you are viewing
the required interface.
