Section 1

Introduction

Meritor’s model MS-113 single-reduction rear
axle has a single-reduction carrier, which is
front-mounted into the axle housing.

Figure 1.1

.

The carrier has a hypoid drive pinion and ring
gear set. Bevel gears are used in the differential
assembly. All bearings in the carrier are tapered
roller bearings.

When the carrier operates, there is normal
differential action between the wheels all the time.
