case bearings for damage.

Inspect the main differential bearings

Install the carrier.

Test drive the vehicle.
Return the vehicle to service.
Visually inspect
the carrier in
the axle housing.
Remove the
carrier from the
axle housing.
Repair the carrier
or install a
remanufactured
carrier. Refer
to Section 2.
Drain and inspect
the lubricant.

Remove the carrier
from the axle housing.

Visually inspect the ring
gear and pinion for
damage. Refer to

Analysis for Drive

or install a
remanufactured

Check the ring gear
backlash and record the

drive pinion bearing for

Repair the carrier
or install a
remanufactured
carrier. Refer

Check the drive pinion end play.

looseness indicates possible
bearing damage.
