Location

Pressure limiting valve
The pressure limiting valve (1) is located at the rear end of the rail.
Task
The pressure limiting valve (1) is a safety element which limits the
maximum rail pressure in the injection system to about 1100 bar. If
the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) recognizes that
the pressure limiting valve (1) is open it activates the limp

mode.

Function
If the current rail pressure exceeds the maximum rail pressure of
about 1100 bar, the push spring (2) is pressed together by the
pressure plate (4). A connection is opened at the same time to the
cutoff bore (3) and the excess fuel flows into the return.
