Regular care of your vehicle is a condition for
retaining the quality in the long term.
Use care products and cleaning agents recom-
mended and approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Care for the exterior
Automatic car wash
G
WARNING
Braking efficiency is reduced after the vehicle
has been washed. There is a risk of an acci-
dent.
After washing the vehicle, brake carefully
while paying attention to the traffic conditions
in order to restore full braking efficiency.
! Before washing the vehicle in an automatic
car wash and to avoid damage to the vehicle,
make sure that:
R
the automatic car wash is suitable for the
size of the vehicle.
R
the side windows and the tilting skylights
are completely closed
R
the windscreen wipers and rear window
wiper are switched off
R
the air conditioning blower is switched off
R
the exterior mirrors are folded in
R
the roof aerial is removed
You can wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash from the very start.
Before washing the vehicle in an automatic
car wash:
X Close the side windows (

page 61).

Close the front tilting skylights (
Y
page 64).
X
Switch off the wipers (
Y
page 86).
X Switch off the rear window wiper (
Y
page 87).
X Switch off the air conditioning blower
(
Y
page 91).
X
If the vehicle is very dirty, prewash it.
X Fold in the exterior mirrors (
Y
page 74).
X Remove the roof aerial.
After washing the vehicle in an automatic
car wash:
X
Remove the wax from the front windscreen
and the wiper blades.
This prevents smears and reduces wiping
noise which can be caused by residue on the
windscreen.
X Fold the exterior mirrors out (
Y
page 74).
X Refit the roof aerial and tighten it
X
Freely adjustable roof aerial: move the roof
aerial at the bracket to the desired position.
Washing by hand
In some countries, washing by hand is only
allowed at specially equipped washing bays.
Observe the legal requirements in the relevant
country.
X Do not use hot water and do not wash the
vehicle in direct sunlight.
X
Use a soft car sponge.
X Use a mild cleaning agent, e.g. a Mercedes-
Benz approved car shampoo.
X
Thoroughly hose down the vehicle with a gen-
tle jet of water.
X Do not point the water jet directly towards the
air inlets.
X
Use plenty of water and rinse out the sponge
frequently.
X Rinse the vehicle with clean water and dry
thoroughly with a chamois.
X
Do not let the cleaning agents dry on the
paintwork.
When using the vehicle in winter, remove all
traces of road salt deposits carefully and as
soon as possible.
High-pressure cleaning equipment

WARNING
The water jet of circular-jet nozzles (dirt grind-
ers) can cause damage not visible from the
outside to tyres or chassis components. Com-
ponents damaged in this way can unexpect-
edly fail. There is a risk of an accident.
Do not use high-pressure cleaners with circu-
lar-jet nozzles to clean the vehicle. Have dam-
aged tyres or chassis components replaced
immediately.
