Observe the notes in the "Winter operation" sec-
tion (
If you fail to adapt your driving style, cruise con-
trol can neither reduce the risk of an accident
nor override the laws of physics. Cruise control
cannot take road, weather and traffic conditions
into account. Cruise control is only an aid. You
are responsible for the distance to the vehicle in
front, for vehicle speed, for braking in good time
and for keeping in lane.
Do not use cruise control:
R
in traffic conditions that are unsuitable for
driving at a constant speed, e.g. in heavy traf-
fic, on winding roads
R
on slippery roads. Braking or accelerating
may cause the drive wheels to lose traction
and the vehicle could then skid
R
when there is poor visibility, e.g. due to fog,
heavy rain or snow
If there is a change of drivers, make sure that
you inform the new driver about the set cruise
speed.
Cruise control maintains the set speed of the
vehicle for you. You must select a lower gear in
good time on long and steep downhill gradients,
especially if the vehicle is laden or towing a
trailer. This utilises the braking effect of the
engine.
Cruise control may not be able to maintain the
stored speed on uphill or downhill gradients. The
speed display flashes in the instrument cluster
in this case.
Use cruise control only if road and traffic con-
ditions make it possible to maintain a steady
speed for a prolonged period. You can store any
road speed above 30 km/h.
You can operate cruise control and variable
SPEEDTRONIC with the cruise control lever.
The LIM indicator lamp in the cruise control
lever indicates which system you have selected.
R
LIM indicator lamp off: cruise control is
selected.

When you activate cruise control, the stored
speed is shown in the multifunction display.
To activate cruise control, all of the following
activation conditions must be fulfilled:
R
the parking brake must be released.
R
you are driving faster than 30 km/h.
R
on vehicles with manual transmission, a gear
must be engaged.
R
cruise control must be selected.
