Bleeding vehicles without fuel prefilter (Vehicles
with OM 470/471/473)

Do not bleed the fuel system of engines OM
470/471/473 using multiple starting procedures.
Otherwise you can damage the starter.

If you start the engine after bleeding: Wait for
10 minutes are three starting attempts. You could
otherwise damage the starter.
OM 470 (Actros)

Bleeding vehicles with engines OM 470/471/473 with the hand pump at the
engine:
• Switch electronic ignition lock to drive position.
• Tilt cab forward, see Chapter "Mechanical-hydraulic cab tilt system" or
"Electrohydraulic cab tilt system".
• Open the cap of the fuel tank.
• Remove screws (2).
• Remove cover (1).
• Press handle at hand pump (3) for approx. 3 minutes or until a clear
resistance is perceptible.
• Within approx. 5 seconds, press external engine start/stop button and
start engine, see Chapter "Engine start/shut off for a tilted cab".
Please note that you must start the engine within approx. 5 seconds of the
fuel pressure being built up by the hand pump. Otherwise the fuel pressure
drops and you will have to repeat the process.
• If the engine starts: Allow engine to run at increased engine speed.
• If engine does not start: Repeat process.
• Install cover (1).
• Tilt back cab into drive position, see Chapter "Mechanical-hydraulic cab
tilt system" or "Electrohydraulic cab tilt system".
• Close the cap of the fuel tank.
