Steering
The G-Class is equipped with an electric longitudinally
and vertically adjustable steering column as standard.
It also features automatic entry/exit steering wheel
adjustment, which facilitates access to the driver seat.
Longitudinal adjustment is performed by a telescoping
function in the steering column.
Compared to the predecessor model, a new steering
column tube and new steering shaft are used.
The steering column tube module is made of an
aluminium alloy and weighs just 7.9 kg. The use of the
new steering column tube changes the position of the
hub and thus the path followed upwards by the
steering wheel in the event of a front crash. This can
have a positive effect for occupants.
The standard boot with angled end has been replaced
with a boot with a straight end on the bulkhead.
