shared resources such as a storage nodes marked as full members can be seen by all clients
marked as limited members without creating a security hole where the clients are seeing each
other.
Switches and gateways may optionally be used to enforce partitioning.
Partitioning can be used to place a group of hosts, gateway ports, or devices within a single
virtual switched network. Some resources can be part of multiple groups, as shown in the
diagram below.

13-1. Partitioning Block Diagram
Diagram Description
In the above block diagram (Figure
13-1), Partition A (PKey A) is shared between InfiniBand
Hosts 1, 2, and 3 and is connected to VLAN Y (Ethernet Hosts) via the sRB-20210G.
Partition B (PKey B) is shared between InfiniBand Hosts 4, 5, and 1. Note that InfiniBand
Host 1 belongs to both Partition A and Partition B, meaning that it can communicate between
all hosts in Partition A and B.
Partition C (PKey A) is shared between InfiniBand Hosts 6 and 7 and is connected to VLAN X
(Ethernet Hosts) via the sRB-20210G. There is also support for server connection to the Fibre
Channel Storage.
All InfiniBand hosts are connected to the InfiniBand via the Switch.
All the members in the fabric can communicate with the Switch management network, which
is the default partition.

Mechanisms Used to Create and Enforce Partitions
1. Each HCA or gateway port has a partition table defining the partitions that can be
accessed by that HCA port. Each port may be added to up to 16 partitions/networks.
