Decide in which direction the tree should fall on the basis of the force and direction of the
wind, the angle of the tree, positioning of large branches, and ideal space for clearance work
after the felling etc.
2.
First clear the area around the tree and decide where to retreat when the tree begins to fall.
3.
Saw a recess on the fall side of the tree, about one third of the way into the trunk.
4.
Saw a felling cut on the opposite side of the trunk, slightly higher up than the lowest part of the recess.
