High voltages are present in
circuits between power sup
ply and strobe lights. Ensure that cir
cuit is turned OFF for minimum of 10
minutes before performing any mainte
nance that requires disconnection of
wiring or disassembly of any compo
nent. (Waiting period allows stored
electrical charge to dissipate off
through a bleed resistor in power sup
ply circuit).
When replacing anti-collision
light (strobe) components do not
intermix components from different man
ufacturers.
NOTE:
The following steps are for the replace
ment of the upper and lower tailboom anti
collision lights for the 500/600N model heli
copter. For removal of the fuselage
anticollision light refer to
Strobe Anticollision
Lights Replacement (369D/E/FF
−
500/600N).
(1). Lower Tailboom Strobe Light Removal:
(a). Carefully slide wiring out thru
installation hole to expose splices,
and if required remove rubber
grommet.
(b). Remove any clear vinyl tubing
covering splices.
(c). Disconnect wiring splices.
(d). Remove clamp and light assembly.
(e). Remove and retain red lens.
(2). Horizontal Stabilizer Strobe Light
Removal:
(a). Remove clamp and light assembly.
(b). Remove and retain red lens.
(c). Carefully slide wiring out thru
installation hole to expose splices,
and if required remove rubber
grommet.
(d). Remove any clear vinyl tubing
covering splices.
(e). Disconnect wiring splices.
(3). Strobe Light Installation:
NOTE:
D
If lower tailboom lens is replaced on the
500N model, fill unused holes at the
strobe light base with RTV 732 (CM430)
and drill one 0.063 inch (1.6002 mm)
drain hole centered in the bottom of the
lens.
D
If lens is also replaced, be sure that anti-
glare tape (CM721) is installed at position
shown in Figure 205.
(a). Place lamp assembly on base-plate
with wiring routed through base-
plate and in correct position for
connection. Be sure that index hole is
forward and lens is properly posi
tioned.
(b). Install shrink sleeving (CM614) on
any braided or ground wire and route
with remainder of wiring thru vinyl
tubing (CM611). Length of vinyl
tubing to be long enough to cover
wiring from base-plate up to 1 - 2
inches (2.54 - 5.08 mm) distance
from splices. Tie wrap (CM704) each
end of vinyl sleeving.
(c). Install clear vinyl tubing sized to fit
over splice once they are connected,
on each wire and slide up temporari
ly out of the way to allow connection
of splices (Ref. Figure 206). Connect
wire splices according to color codes
shown on wiring diagram (Ref. Sec.
96-00-00), and ground wire if
present.
