Winter Driving
• C arry em ergency gear, including tire
chains, w indow scraper, flares, a sm all
shovel, ju m p e r cables, and a sm all bag
o f sand o r salt.
A sk a M azda dealer to perform the
follow ing precautions:
• H ave the proper ratio o f an tifreeze in
the radiator.
• Inspect the battery and its cables. Cold
reduces battery capacity.
• U se only cold-w eather engine
oil (page 8-10).
• Inspect the ignition system for dam age
and loose connections.
• U se w asher fluid m ade w ith
an tifreeze— but d o n ’t use engine
coolant antifreeze for w asher
fluid (page 8-20).
• D o n ’t use the parking brake if it m ight
freeze. Instead, shift to P w ith an
autom atic transaxle and to 1 or R w ith
a m anual transaxle. B lock the rear
wheels.

M ixing Tire Types:
U sing tires d ifferen t in size o r type is

an acciden t. Use only the sam e size
a n d type tires (snow, radial, o r non -
radial) on a ll f o u r w heels.
A CAUTION
C heck local regulations before using
studded tires.
Your vehicle is originally equipped w ith
all season radials designed to b e used all
y e ar around. In som e extrem e clim ates
you m ay find it necessary to rep lace them
w ith snow tires during the w inter m onths
to further im prove traction on snow and
ice covered roads.
U se sn o w tire s o n all f o u r w heels
D o n ’t go faster than 120 km /h (75 m ph).
Inflate snow tires 28 kP a (0.3 k gf/cm 2, 4
psi) m ore than recom m ended on the tire
p ressure label (driver’s door), but never
m ore than the m axim um cold-tire
p ressure show n on the tires.
