SRS Air Bags
Air Bag System Description
The supplem ental restrain t system s (SR S) have tw o basic subsystem s:
• T he air bag system w ith inflators and air bags.
• T he electric system w ith crash sensors and diagnostic m odule.
The air bags are m ounted in the follow ing locations: the cen ter o f the steering w heel, the
passenger-side o f the dashboard, and in the outboard sides o f the front seatbacks. They are
out o f sight until activated.
▼ How the Air Bags Work
W hen air bag crash sensors detect a frontal or side im pact o f greater than m oderate force,
an e lectrical current is sent to the inflators.
G ases are produced to inflate the air bags and after the inflation, the air bags quickly
deflate.
The air bags w ill function only once. A fter that, th e a ir b a g s w ill n o t w o rk a g a in a n d
m u s t b e re p la c e d .
