Child Restraint
Installing Child-Restraint
Systems
A ccident statistics reveal that a child is
safer in the rear seat. T he front
p assen g er’s seat is clearly the w orst
choice for any child under 1 2, and w ith
rear-facing child-restraint system s it is
clearly unsafe due to air bags.
S om e child-restraint system s now com e
w ith tethers and th erefore m ust be
installed on the seats that take tethers to
be effective. In y o u r M azda, tethered
child-restraint system s can only be
accom m odated in the three positions on
the rear seat.

System Installation
Follow these instructions w hen using a
child-restraint system .
N O T E
F ollow the child-restraint system
m an u factu re r’s instructions carefully.
D epending on the type o f child-
restraint system , it m ay not em ploy
seat belts w hich are in autom atic
locking m ode.
1. S ecu re the child-restraint system w ith
the lap portion o f the lap/shoulder belt.
S ee the instructions on the child-
restrain t system for belt routing
instructions.
2. To get the retracto r into the autom atic
locking m ode, pull the shoulder belt
portion o f the seat belt until the entire
length o f the belt is out o f the retractor.
