Insects, tar, tree sap, bird droppings,
industrial fallout, and sim ilar deposits can
dam age the finish if not rem oved

plain w ater is ineffective, use a m ild soap
m ade for use on vehicles.
T horoughly rin se o ff all soap w ith
lukew arm or cold water. D o n ’t allow soap
to dry on the finish.
A fter w ashing the vehicle, dry it w ith a
clean cham ois to prevent w ater spots from
form ing.

D riving w ith Wet Brakes:
D rivin g with w et brakes is dangerou s.
In crea sed stoppin g d istan ce o r the
veh icle p u llin g to one side w hen
bra k in g cou ld resu lt in a serious
acciden t. L ig h t b raking w ill indicate
w h e th er the brakes have been
affected. D ry the brakes b y drivin g
very slow ly a n d applyin g the brakes
lig h tly until brake perfo rm a n ce is
norm al.
W ax in g
Your vehicle needs to b e w axed w hen
w ater no longer beads on the finish.
A lw ays w ash and dry the vehicle before
w axing it. In addition to the vehicle body,
w ax the m etal trim to m aintain its luster.
1. U se w ax w hich contains no abrasives.
W axes containing abrasive w ill rem ove
paint and could dam age bright m etal
parts.
2. U se a good grade o f natural w ax for
m etallic, m ica, and solid colors.
3. W hen w axing, coat evenly w ith the
sponge supplied or a soft cloth.
4. W ipe o ff the w ax w ith a soft cloth.
N O T E
A spot rem over to rem ove oil, tar, and
sim ilar m aterials w ill usually also take
off the w ax. R ew ax these areas even if
the rest o f the vehicle d o esn ’t need it.
▼ Repairing Damage to the Finish
D eep scratches or chips on the finish
should be repaired prom ptly. E xposed
m etal quickly rusts and can lead to m ajor
repairs.
A CAUTION
If y o u r M azda is dam aged and needs
m etal parts repaired or replaced, m ake
sure the body shop applies anti
corrosion m aterials to all parts, both
repaired and new. T his w ill prevent
them from rusting.
▼ Bright-Metal Maintenance
• U se tar rem over to rem ove road tar and
insects. N ever do this w ith a k nife or
sim ilar tool.
• To prevent corrosion on bright-m etal
surfaces, apply w ax or chrom e
preservative and rub it to a high luster.
• D uring cold w eather o r in coastal
areas, cover bright-m etal parts w ith a
coating o f w ax or preservative heavier
than usual. It w ould also help to coat
them w ith noncorrosive petroleum jelly
o r som e other protective com pound.
