Off = Light always off
Door = Light on when a

P = Park

To move gearshift from Park: Press
firmly on brake pedal, then press

Never put moving vehicle in Park
Always apply parking brake when
exiting the vehicle

R = Reverse

Always bring vehicle to a 
complete stop before engaging 
or disengaging reverse gear

N = Neutral

No gear is engaged; vehicle can
roll freely, even on a slight incline,
unless brakes are applied

D = Drive

For normal driving: Shifts through
four forward gears automatically

S = Second

Provides extra power and
increased engine braking 

L = Low

Use for engine braking when 
second gear is not sufficient

Hold mode

Keeps transmission in selected
gear, prevents automatic 
transmission from shifting to
another gear
