rity of swelling, and the nature of connective tissue also play
a role in the selection of medical compression stockings.
Therefore, our recommendations:
• The higher your body weight,
• The greater the tendency of swelling,
• The more severe the disease,
• The softer the connective tissue,
→
the thicker the stocking material should be!
Your doctor or medical staff you trust will help and
advise you on the correct choice of medical compression
stockings. This will ensure that your individual needs
are taken into account – for greater wellbeing and
therapeutic success.
4. Contraindications – when should medical compre-
ssion stockings not be worn?
Medical compression stockings must not be worn in the
following cases:
• advanced peripheral arterial obliteration (if one of the
following applies: ABPI < 0.5, ankle arterial pressure <
60 mm Hg, finger pressure < 30 mm Hg or TcPO2 < 20
mm Hg instep).
• Using inelastic materials, a dose of compression at
ankle arterial pressure between 50 and 60 mm Hg can
be tested under clinical control.
• decompensated cardiac insufficiency (NYHA III + IV)
• septic phlebitis
• phlegmasia coerulea dolens
In the following cases, the therapeutic decision shou-
ld be carefully considered (in view of the benefits
and risks and the choice of the most appropriate
compression):
• severe wet dermatosis
• intolerance to compression material
• severe limb sensitivity disorders
• advanced peripheral neuropathy (e.g. in diabetes mellitus)
• primarily chronic polyarthritis
If you are not sure if any of these apply to you, talk to
your doctor or a healthcare professional you trust.
The following risks and side effects may occur:
In exceptional cases, medical compression stockings can
cause, especially in the case of improper handling
• skin necrosis and
• pressure damage of peripheral nerves.
Sensitive skin may be prone to itchiness, scaling and
signs of inflammation. Therefore, it is reasonable to take
care of your skin during compression care. Please follow
our important guidelines (points 7 and 8).
The following symptoms should result in the imme-
diate removal of the compression sleeve and consul-
tation with the attending physician or a healthcare
professional:
• blue or white toes, discomfort and numbness, incre-
asing pain, shortness of breath and sweating, acute
movement restriction
5. Intended target user group
The intended users include doctors, healthcare professionals,
nursing staff ensuring correct application of the medical
compression sleeve to patients, and the patients themselves.
The correct choice of medical compression sleeve (mea-
surement, size determination, function, indication in
adults and children, compression class) is their respon-
sibility and should be based on available information
from the manufacturer.
6. Wearing and use time – how long can I wear com-
pression stockings?
Unless your doctor specifies otherwise, wear your
compression stockings from morning to evening for
an optimal therapeutic effect. If in exceptional cases
(e.g. a long-haul flight) the wearing time is significantly
exceeded, you have the possibility to slightly adjust the
compression stockings several times.
For the stockings to work optimally, a precisely graduated
pressure curve is a prerequisite. Everyday wearing and
washing can reduce the necessary therapeutic pressure
and elasticity of your compression stockings over time. The
recommended usability is therefore 6 months. To obtain
the best pressure, follow our guidelines and recommenda-
tions (points 8 and 10). Do not hesitate to contact us. We
will inform you about the possibilities of ensuring effective
and long-term treatment of diseases of the venous or
lymphatic system using medical compression stockings.
7. Instructions for use – what should I know?
• Medical compression stockings should only be
distributed by trained personnel and accompanied by
instructions for use and care (see points 8 and 10).
• Should you experience pain or excessive skin irritation
during wear, remove your stockings immediately and
consult your doctor or a healthcare professional.
• Appropriate skin care is essential for compression
therapy. In particular, creams or ointments containing
fat, but also soap residues, can cause skin irritation
and material wear, and thus reduce the effectiveness
of medical compression stockings. That‘s why we offer
complementary skin care products that are specially
adapted for compression stockings. Ask for advice at
specialized points of sale.
• In silicone banded compression stockings, skin irritation
may occur in people with sensitive skin (due to a combi-
nation of sweat and mechanical stress). To avoid this, it is
recommended to slightly move the band several times
during the day (see point 6). Slipping of thigh stockings
can also be caused by a large amount of hairs. In similar
cases, we recommend the use of a special adhesive for
a better grip of the medical compression stockings. If
necessary, ask for advice at specialized points of sale.
• Sharp finger and toe nails, defective shoes, jewelry, as well
as rough and calloused heels can cause damage to the knit.
• Never repair stockings by yourself or have them
repaired by another service provider, as this reduces
the quality, safety and efficiency of the medical device.
Information on repair, if possible, will be provided to
you by our salespeople or our customer service.
• In case of complaints about products such as knit dam-
age, please contact your specialized shops. Only serious
events that may lead to a significant deterioration of he-
alth or death shall be reported to the manufacturer and
the competent state authority. Major events are defined
in Article 2 no 65. of Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR).
• A textile label sewn onto the stockings plays an
important part in identifying the product. Under no
circumstances should you remove this label from your
medical compression stocking, cutting it will void your
warranty, repair, or replacement.
8. Donning instructions – what should I be careful about
when putting on my medical compression stockings?
Always don the product on a dry leg, preferably in the
morning before putting pressure on the limb.
If you take a shower in the morning and then take care of
your skin (see also point 10 – Instructions for care), wait
a short time until your skin dries properly. This makes
donning much easier. Also prepare your textile or rubber
gloves, which are available at specialized points of sale.
You can use them later to make it easier to spread the stocking
around your leg or to get started at the beginning. The gloves
fit particularly well and make donning easier.
When putting the stockings on, make sure your nails are
rounded and smooth. Well-kept heels and toenails are also
important to prevent damage to the knit. Put on your jewelry
or wristwatch only after putting on your stockings. To put your
medical compression stockings on comfortably, sit down and
place your foot on an elevated surface, such as a small stool.
Donning open-toed medical compression stockings
The procedure for putting on open-toed products is
shown in the front part of the instructions (fig. A).
1. For easier donning of open-toed products, we have
included a smooth donning aid which goes on your
toes and heel.
