1G-3 Fuel System: LPG
Manual Shut-off Valve
Rotating the handle clockwise shuts off the main path within the LPG tank valve, and halts the discharge of gas.
This valve has to be open when driving the vehicle normally or when refueling the LPG tank, and it has to be shut in
unusual circumstances, such as when an accident has occurred or when the vehicle will not be used for an extended
period of time.
Excess Flow Valve
The excess flow valve is a safety valve that operates
automatically on the difference between the internal
pressure of the LPG tank and the pressure at the outlet,
when gas flow becomes abnormal due to damaged LPG
fuel pipe, etc.
Shut-Off Valve
The shut-off valve is an electromagnetic isolation valve
in the fuel path that opens and shuts in response to a
signal from the LPG control module. For more
information on valve opening and closing controls, refer
to “Bi-Fuel LPG System Component Description”: Bi-
Fuel LPG model in Section 1A.
When electric current is supplied to the coil based on a
signal from the LPG control module, the plunger lifts,
placing the shut-off valve in an open state.
Fusible Plug
To prevent the LPG tank from burst, when the gas or the
atmosphere temperature exceeds a specified
temperature (approx. 120 Deg. C +/- 10 Deg. C), the
fuse metal melts and the fuel gas in the tank is released
into the atmosphere.
Pressure Relief Device
To prevent the LPG tank from burst, when the gas
pressure inside the LPG tank exceeds a specified value
(approximately 22 bars), the valve opens to relieve the
gas into atmosphere.
Non-Return Valves
There are two valves in the multifunction valves. Gas
pressure in the desired direction overcomes the spring
pressure and opens the shutter to allow the gas to enter
in the tank. If the direction is opposite, the gas pressure
pushes the shutter in closed position.?
80% Fill Limiter
It is a spring loaded piston which? is kept in “close”
position. Gas pressure pushes this piston open? by
overcoming the spring tension till its stem is set on
the?cam. When the float reaches 80%,the piston stem
slides down? the cam and the flow of gas to the tank is
restricted.?
LPG Fuel Filter Description
AENAR90A1701007
The LPG fuel filter is located downstream from the LPG pressure regulator to remove any impurities (mostly oil) from
the fuel gas.
LPG Pressure Regulator Description
AENAR90A1701008
LPG pressure regulator is a device to decompress the high pressure gas in the LPG tank to a suitable extent for
injection by the injector attached beside the battery in the engine compartment.
Gas decompression is performed by a diaphragm in two steps: high-pressure side and low-pressure side. After gas is
decompressed in first stage, it is further decompressed to a suitable pressure for fuel injection in second stage.
The LPG pressure regulator contains a mechanically operating relief valve, which operates when pressure in the first
stage exceeds a specified value, venting gas outside.
The pressure sensor that measures the pressure on the high-pressure side, and the shut-off valve that opens and
shuts in response to a signal from the LPG control module are attached to the fuel gas inlet. For more information on
valve opening and closing controls, refer to “Bi-Fuel LPG System Component Description”: Bi-Fuel LPG model in
Section 1A.
While the LPG pressure regulator is in operation, some operating parts may freeze due to adiabatic expansion inside
the LPG pressure regulator. Engine coolant is circulating through the LPG pressure regulator to prevent freezing.
