Using a 7/8” hole saw, 
drill the hole for the 
lock spindle. It is 
drilled to the mortise 
cavity. Drill from both 
sides of the door. 

Use a 1-1/4” hole 
saw to drill the  
mortise cylinder hole 
on the outside of the 
door.  
 
If your mortise lock  
installation required 
an inside thumb 
turn, use a 1/2” twist 
drill and drill the  
required hole on the 
inside of the door 
only.

When all holes have 
been drilled, remove 
the HIT-66 drill guide 
from the door. This is a 
prep for a Best mortise 
lock with rose trim. If 
installing escutcheon 
trim see next page.
