Road surface
18” to 20”
Dig a hole 18 to 20 inches from the edge of the road surface.
Refer to the diagram on the reverse of this page for post depth
and placement guidelines.
1
Mix and pour concrete. Using your level, confirm you are at the desired
position. Once concrete is set, remove the brace and install your Mail Boss
mailbox or spreader assembly.
3
Place the post into the hole at the required location and
make sure that the flat portion of the post is parallel to the
road. Use a wood plank and masking tape to temporarily
brace the post in place. Ideally, level the top of the post so
that the front of the mailbox will be 0.5° - 1° lower than the
rear, this will allow water to shed off the front overhang of
the mailbox.

The USPS is the ultimate authority on mailbox installations, and in some cases if you are located on a high-speed road there may be additional rules or guidelines set in place by your local
municipality or transportation department. If you are unsure about the location of your mailbox or the details of your installation, please reach out to your local post office before installing
the post/ mailbox to ensure the correct placement and height at the street.
