
6.2 Correct Use of the Power Assist Unit
Turn the key to on, apply gentle pressure on the speed control lever and the wheelchair will move in a
forwards. Increase the pressure on the lever to move faster. Release the lever to bring the wheelchair to a
halt.
WARNING! It is recommended that the preset speed control is set to a low speed in order to
become familiar with its operation. Serious injury may result to the user or attendant.
As terrain becomes more difficult or uneven, the preset speed control and the speed control lever may
need adjustment. Release the speed control lever immediately if control is lost. Under no circumstances
should the person in the wheelchair operate the hand control.
Take care when negotiating kerbs.It is recommended that kerb cut-outs (ramps)
are used whenever possible. When reversing up and down kerbs, the power
assist unit must be lifted clear of the ground with the lifting strap (C).
STOP! Never let the power assist unit crash down the kerb as this may cause damage.
6.3 Battery Charging
The battery fitted is the latest in battery technology; it is sealed, maintenance free and especially designed
for power mobility. Correct charging will maximise battery life. Following the charging instructions correctly
will ensure you get the best results from your battery.
The batteries need to be charged and discharged around 10 times before the will give their maximum
performance and range. Range depends on many factors, such as weight of occupant, gradients, terrain
and how much assistance the attendant gives the power assist unit. It is recommended that initial journeys
are short and are gradually increased to allow a feel for the potential range to be developed. Always ensure
that your battery is adequately charged before undertaking any journey.
6.4 Charging Procedure
Always use the charger supplied with the power assist unit. The charger has automatic input voltage
selection between 100 & 240v AC and can be used in any country with the appropriate plug/socket
adaptor.
