Cleaning Primary Air Filter
The engine air cleaner
’
s primary filter should be replaced after three cleanings or at the specified interval. The secondary
element should be replaced every third time the primary element is changed. Refer to
6.2 Windrower Break-In Inspections
and Maintenance Schedule, page 283
for the required interval.
1.
Hold a bright light inside the element and check carefully for holes. Vibration will quickly wear a hole in the filter.
2.
Check the filter gasket for cracks, tears, or other signs of damage.
3.
Check the element for oil or soot contamination.
4.
Check the secondary element for cleanliness. If there is visible dirt on the secondary element, replace both the primary
and secondary elements. Do
NOT
clean the secondary element.
IMPORTANT:
•
The secondary filter element should
NEVER
be cleaned, only replaced.
•
Primary air filter element cleaning is NOT recommended due to the possible degradation of the element
material.
If cleaning is performed, there are several risks involved and the following steps should be followed. If
any of the conditions described in these steps are found, the filter element
MUST
be replaced.
