Install the nut, new lock washer, and
washer on the stud.
C.
Initially torque the nuts in the sequence
shown in Figure 12 to 25 in.-lb. (2.8
Nm).
D.
Complete the final torque of the nuts to
96 in.-lb. (10.9 Nm), in the sequence
shown in Figure 12.

NOTICE:
IO-390-D Series engines can be equipped with aluminum or magnesium oil sump.
Be aware of the type of components installed on your engine before cleaning,
completing maintenance, or replacing parts.
17.
Oil Sump Removal
A.
Drain oil from the oil sump per the “Oil Change Procedure” in Chapter 12-10.
B.
If not already done, remove the intake pipes per Chapter 72-80.

NOTICE:
In the next step, keep the A Bolts, B Bolts, and C Bolts separated.
C.
Remove and keep the eight “A” bolts, lock washers, and washers (Figure 13) that attach the
oil sump to the accessory housing and crankcase. Discard the lock washers.
D.
Remove and keep the 10 “B” bolts, lock washers, flat washers, and nuts from the oil sump.
Discard the lock washers.
E.
While one person holds the oil sump, remove and keep the two “C” bolts, lock washers, flat
washers, and nuts from the locations shown in Figure 13 on the oil sump. Discard the lock
washers.
F.
Remove the oil sump from the engine.
G.
Remove and discard the oil sump gasket.
H.
Turn over or cover the oil sump to prevent dirt and debris from getting in the oil sump.
