Stored Forms
A
stored form
is a form that the DOS terminal permanently stores and the host does not have to
transmit to the DOS terminal each time it needs to be accessed.
The host application programmer can use Expanded Function K to store pre-programmed forms in
the LXE DOS terminals. The DOS terminal stores the forms in the stored forms directory and the
operator and host can access them as desired.
A stored form cannot be deleted once it has been saved in the terminal by host directive. However,
it can be overwritten with a new form or a message can be sent to the terminal that indicates that
the form is inactive.
Maximum Number of Stored Forms
The maximum number of stored forms supported by the LDS Plus TE program is 94 and the
maximum size of each stored form is 520 characters, including the form label.
Downloading Stored Forms
The host computer downloads stored forms for permanent storage in the DOS terminal.
The following message illustrates the location of the control character and N/EF character used
when sending a message that stores a form:
Y
is the control character that allows you to send an
expanded function.
K
is the N/EF character that stores a form in the
terminal.
A
is the form identifier (first character of the form).

Identifying Stored Forms
The first character of any form identifies the form. In the figure titled “Control and N/EF
Character’s Location”, the letter A is the form identifier of a stored form and enables access to the
stored form.
The first character of the stored form can be any character from the ASCII subset 20 through 7E
excluding the less than symbol 3C(<).
Calling Up a Stored Form
There are two methods for calling up a stored form:
•
The
host
can use Expanded Functions C, c, U, u, V, or v to call up a stored form in
the DOS terminal.
•
The operator can call up a stored form with a hot key sequence: [ALT] [2]. The
StoredFormCall parameter must be enabled. See the procedure in Chapter 2,
“Getting Started.”
