Important Notes

Please read before installing

1. 

Connect only No. 12 or 14 AWG gauge copper or copper 
clad wire to switch. See device for strip length.

2.

 Do not connect aluminum wire to this device. 

3.

 Install in accordance with all national and local electrical 

codes.

4. 

Clean unit with a 

soft damp cloth only

. Do not use any 

chemical cleaners.

Multi-Unit Installations

When combining controls in a wallbox, remove all inner side sections prior to 
wiring (see below). Use pliers to bend side section up and down until it breaks 
off. Repeat for each side section to be removed. 

Note:

 No derating required if 

ganged.

Insulated wires connected to two

use with #14 AWG 

solid copper wire

Installation

For installations involving more than one control in a wallbox, refer to 
Multi-Unit Installations before beginning.

Prepare wires. 

Trim or strip wallbox wires to the length 

indicated by the strip gauge on the back of the switch. Use the 
same procedure to wire your new switch as was used with the 
old switch (see Step 4 and below).

Disconnect switch wires.

WARNING: Turn power OFF at circuit breaker or remove fuse.

Remove switch mounting screws. Pull switch from wall.

Identify type of circuit.

Turn power ON.

Mount and align switch. Replace wallplate.

Wire the switch.

• Connect the bare copper or 

green ground wire to the green 
ground screw on the switch.

• Connect one of the insulated 

wires removed from the 
switch to either of the screws 
(or push-in terminals) on the 
switch.

• Connect the other insulated 

wire removed from the switch 
to the other screw (or push-in 
terminal) on the switch.

• 

Note: 

If you are replacing 

a single-pole switch with a        
3-way switch, the screw on the 
opposite side of the different 
colored screw, is not used. 
Tighten it securely and follow 
instructions for single-pole 
wiring.

• Connect the green or bare 

copper ground wire to the 
green ground screw on the 
switch.

• Connect the Tagged wire 

removed from the switch to 
the different-colored screw 
(COMMON) (or push-in 
terminal) on the switch.

• Connect one of the remaining 

wires removed from the switch 
to either of the remaining 
screws (or push-in terminal) on 
the switch.

• Connect the last wire removed 

from the switch to the 
remaining screw (or push-in 
terminal) on the switch.

 Your wall switch may have two wires attached to the 

same screw (see illustrations below for examples). Tape these two 
wires together before disconnecting. When wiring, connect wires to the 
dimmer the same way there were connected to the switch.
