Installation Manual

Powering and Testing Procedures

Powering & Battery 
Grounding

Perform the following steps listed in the table below to power the WaveStar OLS 
40G or OT shelf:

1 

Verify that all packing material has been removed from 
the cabinet and shelf.

2 

Verify that the breakers at the Battery Distribution and 
Fuse Bay (BDFB) are in the OFF position, or if fuses are 
utilized, verify that the fuses are not installed.

3 

Verify all circuit packs are unseated from all shelves.

NOTE:

The OMU and ODUs may be seated at this time. 
They are not connected to battery voltage.

4 

Remove the fuses from both fuse holders on each shelf.

a.

Open the retainer by lifting up on the bottom edge 
of the retainer.

b.

Press lightly down on the top edge of the fuse 
cap.

c.

The fuse cap will pop out.

5 

Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance from the 
top terminal inside each fuse holder to frame ground. 

NOTE:

For an Integrated Bay, follow the steps for both the 
WaveStar OLS 40G shelf and for the OT shelves.

Requirement: The resistance should show an open 
circuit (more than a megaohm reading) for each fuse 
holder. If the resistance measurement requirement is not 
met then check the battery cables.
