Install AYB1B Optical Units in Optical Shelf
1.
NOTE:
In order to determine how many optical units are required for a given
optical shelf and where they will be located, it is necessary to know the
type of channel units (AUA400 or AUA401) that will installed in the
Series 5 system shelf and where they will be located. The optical unit
slots in each optical shelf correspond directly to identically numbered
channel units slots in a Series 5 system shelf (48 slots - 96 channels). If
an AUA400 CU (channel unit) is to be installed in one of the system shelf
slots, an optical unit should be installed into the identically numbered slot
in the optical shelf. If an AUA401 CU is to be installed, it will occupy two
CU slots and will have two corresponding optical unit slots in the optical
shelf with only one optical unit required. Of the two optical unit slots
associated with an AUA401 CU, the left (lower numbered) slot will be
equipped with an optical unit thus leaving the right slot vacant.
Get required number of AYB1B OUs and inspect for physical damage.
2.
Using a J99409OB, L1 OBMK (optical backplane maintenance kit), remove
protective plug from backplane coupling in one of the optical shelf slots to
receive the AYB1B OU as follows:
• Insert alignment card into slot of optical shelf and latch it into place.
• Insert plug removal rod into chuck of handle. Tighten chuck into handle.
• Insert handle/plug removal rod assembly into guide tube on alignment
card until knob stops forward progress.
NOTE:
An attempt should not be made to withdraw handle/plug removal rod from
guide tube while alignment card is latched in place. The protective plug
being removed will not fit through guide tube.
• Simultaneously remove alignment card and handle/plug removal rod
assembly.
• Remove protective plug from connector end of alignment card and store it
in J99409OB case.
• Remove handle/plug removal rod assembly from alignment card.
