Configuration Basics
Making Configuration Files
Using the LI-6400
16-5
The Installation Menu is a powerful tool that can save you time and grief.
Suppose, for example, you were going to use a clear bottomed 2x6 chamber,
and wanted to configure the LI-6400 accordingly. If you were some sort of a
LI-6400 guru, you might be able to go to the Config Editor and build one from
scratch

, keeping in mind the following issues: leaf temperature is no longer
measured, so you need an energy balance computation; itÕs a 2x6 chamber, so
the boundary layer conductance is different; if youÕre measuring needles in-
stead of broadleaves, the boundary layer is different again. However, a more
normal person could just go to the Installation Menu, select Ò6400-08 Clear
2x3 BottomÓ, answer some questions, and produce a proper configuration,
without having to know any arcane details.
Two Examples
We present two examples of using the Installation Menu to build configura-
tion files.

Example: 6400-02B LED Source
Suppose you already have a 6400-02 red LED source, but you have acquired
a 6400-02B source as well. This example will show you how to install it, and
easily switch configurations from one to the other.
"6400-02 or -02B LED Source"
"6400-05 Conifer Chamber"
"6400-06 PAM Interface"
"6400-07 or -11 2x6 Chamber"
"6400-08 Clear 2x3 Bottom"
"6400-09 Soil Chamber"
"6400-10 MiniPAM Interface"
"6400-13 TC Adapter"
"6400-14 OptiSciences"
"External Quantum Sensor"
"Std 2x3 Chamber Top"
"View Installed Cal Items"
"Configuration Examples Menu"
Figure 16-4. The Installation Menu can be used to add calibration factors of newly acquired accessories and to
generate or modify a configuration to use that accessory.
The
ÒView Installed...Ó
entry lists all
installed accessories that have a calibration.
Check this to see if a particular item has al-
ready been installed. Items can also be re-
moved using
ÒView Installed...Ó
.

This guru wouldnÕt try. HeÕd just use the Installation Menu.
